A group of music publishing companies jave joined forces to sue Youtube, apparently coz many songwriters arenot receiving proper compensation when their music appear on YouTube videos.  They also say that YouTube is breaking the law by hosting video clips that they hold the copyrights to.

However, YouTube says it is complying with the law by immediately taking down any clips found to be violating copyrights after receiving notification.

Also early this month,  a British teachers' union backed a motion calling for video-sharing websites, like YouTube, to be shut down so that so-called "cyber-bullies" stop targeting students and staff online. Apparently one teacher had received a death threat from one of the students who had posted a doctored photo of the teacher, headless, with the accompanying caption: "You Are Dead."

Youtube was created in February 2005, and is the world's leading video sharing website.

It is such headlines that will cause youtube to be shut infact you may end up being sued by youtube for damaging their name,i don't think they break the law,the people that break the law are those that sign up and post copyright stuff.Youtube cannot manage to check everything that is posted but i know they check and remove content found to be violating their rules, putfile does the same,i have checked my putfile account and found alot of music i uploaded removed for violation of their rules governing copyright material so i have deleted the links.

The other site to be in trouble at the moment is facebook which is similar to Hi5,there is actually a petition going on to save it from being closed.

May i also take this opportunity to ask all of you to think twice before you post pictures of yourself on the net eg on facebook,hi5 etc, people steal those files and use them to make pornographic material etc,a British girl photographer was shocked to learn that her picture was used on a porno dvd,she was actaully 14 years old when the alleged photo was taken, she has sued, this was on BBC news on 13 August 2007.

Well may be ur right, the Headline is kinda judgmental, but 'YouTube is breaking the law' is the Bold headline that one of Southafrican news websites had on the 07/08/2007, where as "Call to shut down YouTube" was another headline they run on 01/08/2007, so fallycious babe wouldnt be the one2be sued!!
Among others they said that the lawsuit also includes as plaintiffs The Football Association Premier League and Viacom Inc, a media company that owns MTV, Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central.

The lawsuits have been combined for trial purposes into one case being heard by US District Judge Louis L Stanton in New York.

So lets wait and see the outcome of this. Wink

To be honest with you,you wouldn't be the only one that could be sued if someone from youtube saw this on AMF,you should have indicated the source of your information or simply cut and paste the full story as that SA print media had originally posted it,next time just be cautious, these companies can take on individuals tarnishing their image! YouTube explelled me for copyright violation so i signed up under a different name and posted more copyrighted stuff.  Actually, 20th Century Fox went on a rampage pointing out all the videos from their movies or TV shows.  They gave me a couple of warnings but i neglected them so they removed my whole account.  I don't believe YouTube will be shut down - it may just have to pay royalties to these greedy companies.
FaceBook, MySpace, Craigslist have all faced lawsuits concerning people being hurt or killed after meeting there or something or other.  I always say, keep your personal info to yourself.  And if you don't want your photo spread all over the world, don't post it on a public website. And, parents, don't ever give your child a webcam.. Aaargh!
