AP Reports:

HARARE, Zimbabwe - Pets are being slaughtered for meat in shortage-stricken Zimbabwe and record numbers of animals have been surrendered to shelters or abandoned by owners no longer able to feed them, animal welfare activists say.

I haven't been following the events in Zimbabwe closely in the last year or two.

Is it this bad?

I visited Harare once in the late eighties, and what a beautiful city it was then -- I wonder what's happening there right now, with  7,600 percent inflation!

The situation is so pathetic. The President of that Country,Bob wants to cling on to power probably because of the sins he has committed during his 27 years in power, maybe he's afraid of the prospect of facing time in prison like his Zambian colleague Chiluba who was found guilty of having embezzled state funds totalling around £23 Million,he is yet to be sentenced as the case has now been closed in the High Court, the lower courts have also closed cases against him regarding more corruption charges..
