While filming in Western Kenya for the TV show "Raw Music International" (http://www.rawmusicinternational.com)we ran across the great nyatiti player Orono in the village of Nyawara. We managed to record a bit on film, which you can see at this link:



A rapper who joined us, LaFam of Kisumu, freestyled over Orono's work:



Finally, LaFam used a sample from our recording session to make this hip hop beat:



The old and the new come together!  I love Orono's playing, and you can hear a couple full tracks by him, as well as several other Kisumu artists on the Raw Music International Mixtape, available here: http://rawmusicinternational.bandcamp.com/
