Georgy Vasilevich Sviridov ((3) on December, 16th 1915, Fatezh — on January, 6th 1998, Moscow) — the Soviet and Russian composer, the pianist. Dmitry Shostakovich's pupil. Has been awarded by the Stalin award (1946), Lenin (1960) and the State award of the USSR (1968, 1980). Lenin's four awards, an award «For merits before Fatherland» 2 degrees (1995), the Honourable citizen of Moscow (1997).
One of the most original and bright artists of our present. In creativity of the composer the Native land theme has special value. It sounds and in liriko-epic compositions, and in the products devoted to pictures of a national life, to landscapes, and in heroic images of revolution. G.V.Sviridov's creativity inseparably linked with the figurative world of poetry. The circle of poets, whose verses became a literary basis of its music - cantatas, oratorios, the vocal cycles, separate romances and songs, is extremely wide. Here A.S.Pushkin and M.J.Lermontov, poets-Decembrists and N.Nekrasov, R.Burns and V.Shakespeare, A.Blok and V.Mayakovsky, S.Yesenin and A.Isaakjan and others. It characterises G.Sviridov as the musician of high culture to whom poetic masterpieces of all times and the people are accessible. Addressing to products of the best poets of the world, G.Sviridov nevertheless prefers Russian, Soviet, to S.Yesenin especially favourite by it: From two hundred with small the songs, more than fifty on Yesenin's verses. By the way, G.Sviridov posesses honour of "opening" for S.Yesenin and V.Mayakovsky's serious academic music though it and not the first has addressed to their verses. Simply, the composer "has in a new fashion read" these verses.
His name named Kursk musical school.
