ATTENTION NA SIDA (Beware of Aids) By FRANCO
Oh, Aids. This terrible sickness
Oh, Aids. A disease, which does not forgive
A disease, which spares nobody
Aids is a plague
Which leaves doctors impotent
Look after your body, and I ‘ll look protect mine
Protect your own body; I ‘ll protect mine too
Aids knows no country
Aids does not discriminate against race
Aids knows no age
Women, beware and you men beware too
What can I say, mama?
Aids is dividing peoples
Aids has broken marriages
Aids has divided families
Those who used to eat and drink with me
Have started avoiding me
They say because I have this disease Aids
All my friends are cutting me off
Who can I complain to?
Look after your body, and I ‘ll look protect mine
Protect your own body; I ‘ll protect mine too
Aids knows no country
Aids does not discriminate against race
Aids knows no age
Women, beware and you men beware too

Aids is ravaging all peoples; they are frightened
Europe and the USA accuse Africa of being the source of Aids
Recently Asia and USA were invaded by the sickness
Today every country is under attack
Aids is not stopping its destructive path
All sections of society are victims of Aids
Babies, children, youths, adults, the old, workers, bureaucrats,
Managers, men, women, and even doctors.
Aids can attack anybody. It can kill
It will kill all who do not protect themselves
You, brothers and sisters who already carry the virus
Do not behave in a way that contaminates others
Look after your body, and I ‘ll look protect mine
Protect your own body; I ‘ll protect mine too
Aids knows no country
Aids does not discriminate against race
Aids knows no age
Women, beware and you men beware too
Aids has made us forget about all other diseases
If a person is sick, they say it is Aids
If a person has fever, they say it is Aids
If a person becomes thin, they say it is Aids
If a person dies, they say he has died from Aids
What about all those other old diseases why have we forgotten them
Oh, God, Oh God, Oh God. Only you..But where did this disease come from
Look after your body, and I ‘ll look protect mine
Protect your own body; I ‘ll protect mine too
Aids knows no country
Aids does not discriminate against race
Aids knows no age
Women, beware and you men beware too
You pregnant women, if can carry the virus
You can transmit it to your babies
They may be infected, although you do not know
Ladies, avoid getting pregnant if you know you have the virus.
It is bad to ignore this, as your child could die
Youth, beware, Aids can attack you
You are the life force of society
If you let it kill you, who will lead the people?
Avoid dangerous sex. Students beware unknown partners.
Be careful whom you take money from
It could get you in deeper trouble.
Avoid occasional partners
Youth, beware of drugs. If you inject drugs with needles you can become infected.
Don’t take drugs; it is very bad to your health
Look after your body, and I ‘ll look protect mine
Protect your own body; I ‘ll protect mine too
Aids knows no country
Aids does not discriminate against race
Aids knows no age
Women, beware and you men beware too
This sickness oh, this sickness Aids
Can make you bald by losing your hair
It will bring you sores and spots on your body
It will give you diarrhoea.
Avoid picking up just anybody
Think before you make love
Even if you desire someone, be careful. Think first
Look after your body, and I ‘ll look protect mine
Protect your own body; I ‘ll protect mine too
Aids knows no country
Aids does not discriminate against race
Aids knows no age
Women, beware and you men beware too
You gentlemen, citizens
Beware of prostitutes
Avoid multiple partners
And you, ladies, citizens
Take measurements for your protection
Workers, in workshops, factories and offices
When you talking together
Do not neglect the subject
Time passes by quickly, and everyday
Death takes the victim of Aids
The best way to avoid death is to protect yourself
Oh God, we pray to you
This disease Aids this illness called Aids.
Gods has given us bad luck
Look after your body, and I ‘ll look protect mine
Protect your own body; I ‘ll protect mine too
Aids knows no country
Aids does not discriminate against race
Aids knows no age
Women, beware and you men beware too
Priests at mass, pastors in church, rabbis in synagogues,
Imams in the mosque, you have an obligation
A great obligation to society. Use your office to help
Preach what society must know about Aids
Do not hold back. It is your duty to tell the people that
Aids is a punishment from God; it resembles
Soddom and Gomorrah in ancient times
Ask God to deliver us from this sickness
Use your prayers to ask God the way to salvation
All my family has run away from me
Because I now have Aids. I am now left with only my mother,
Who has to suffer again by taking care of me just as she did during my childhood.
Look after your body, and I ‘ll look protect mine
Protect your own body; I ‘ll protect mine too
Aids knows no country
Aids does not discriminate against race
Aids knows no age
Women, beware and you men beware too
Teachers, instructors, professors
At schools, in class, at home
If you have a free moment discuss Aids
Its part of your scholarly obligation
Teachers at school, college and in universities
The parents count on you to educate their children.
Parents, don’t be shy, tell your children and the youth
All you know about Aids
Tell the whole world, tell everybody to beware
It is for you to fight against Aids
We are waiting for a vaccine. We wait for medicine
It will take a long time to come,
Maybe five, seven or ten years. Change your behaviour
Time is pressing, the sickness spreads fast.
Doctors, be like PASTEUR, FLEMMING, CURIE AND OTHER
GENIUSES OF THE "PAST CENTURY"
Now is your turn to conquer this plague which
Terrifies humanity and defies medicine
Don’t waste time finding the medicine, whatever it is
Get this plague out of the human body
Doctors you know well how Aids is caught
Do not show the disease that you are afraid
Do not discourage the sick by your behaviour
The medical profession looks to you to find courage
To conquer this sickness
Doctors beware; the patient’s file is confidential
It concerns only the patient and close family
Don’t talk so much that you create panic
You duty is always sacred. Your profession is sacred too
Your duty is find a medicine
If there is a miracle it will come from you
Doctors be careful with needles,
Always wear gloves when you touch blood
Look after your body, and I ‘ll look protect mine
Protect your own body; I ‘ll protect mine too
Aids knows no country
Aids does not discriminate against race
Aids knows no age
Women, beware and you men beware too
Governments of rich countries, help the poor countries
Lead the way in the struggle against Aids
Don’t sale them arms to kill
But provide arms for the War against Aids
Brothers and sisters of the United Nations
Between yourselves combine experience and spread understanding
Political authorities, use radio, television and the press to inform
The people of the dangers of Aids
Tell us how to protect against and combat Aids
We must all be mobilized against AIDS."
By 1988 the Grandmaster health was not holding from once at his peak of 140kg he had gone down to 70kg at one point. His sight was not good hence the thick spectacles. Word around was that the once big man was HIV + a thing he constantly denied, in this article I will respect his word and not confirm whether he died of Aids or not. Though he did see a Belgian Doctor at a University hospital who was a specialist on these matters, but when you have an illness you are desperate and always try anything suggested upon by people you need to be sick or your loved to appreciate this fact.
On a Thursday, October 12th 1989 Franco died in hospital at Namur, Belgium. At the bedside were his sister Marie-Louise, wife Annie Mbule and his faith friend Rondot. Mobutu declared a four days national morning; the president paid all funeral expenses. Funeral was held at the cathedral in Kinshasa and according to Evans in the book Congo Colossus the priest had this to say about Franco "Franco lived a very full life, yes he was a prophet, if he was considered a trouble maker it is only because his message was frank and direct, and it challenged the conscience of his listeners. He was a missionary who well understood his mission. As he himself said, his mission was to provoke, denounce and to tell the truth". Yes indeed he once said that "i am an artist and I paint what I see" I see someone with torn trousers, I will say that he is putting on torn trousers". He was buried on the 17th October in Gombe cemetery.
Since 2003 I would always have a Franco memorial on radio but this year UNZA was on recess on the 12th of October. As OK Jazz turned 51 years old this year we hope the legacy left by its leader lives on for centuries to come.
Author is a teacher in southern province he presents a Rhumba show on Unza Radio 91.5 FM Called Mizik ya Mboka. He translates and explains songs played on his show.
This is an article i had sumitted to a news paper for publication consideration guess was the article was too long for a tabloid news paper
