Time for the East Africa forum to do a little catching up!!!

Has anyone here heard the new UK released compilation called 'The Very Best of Ethiopiques' 2CD? It is fansastic!

Ethiopian Funk, Jazz, Soul mixed with more traditional sounds into the definitive Ethiopian album of modern Ethiopian music.

Check it  out at at the official fansited www.ethiopiques.info where you can listen and watch the likes of Mahmoud Ahmed in action!

Welcome Tim!

I would like to create a 'Child Board' for your region under 'East Africa' -- could you please give us a few 'broad' categories -- the most popular music in Ethiopia?

What about Eritrea? -- when you are not fighting each other  Don't Tell

Tim, Welcome to the forum....

May be you can start off by posting a few of your favorite songs, so that we can give them a try too. I would love to hear how they sound like.

I just visited the site u posted, and saw a couple of comments that people said there, and they sound excited abt this kind of music too. I did not have time to sample some of them, may be I will try later, and also hope you will post some here for us!   Grin Wink

Cheers.

Hi, I'm real real happy this is of interest to you. I'm off on a quick holiday to Tunisia for a week, but will be in contact again when I get back.

Best wishes

Hi Admin and Prada

Admin: Please PM me with your contact details and I will forward them onto top Ethiopian music specialist who can make sure your child board gets off on the right foot. I built the fansite for Ethiopiques release, but know more about W.African music.

Prada: I'm originally from a funk background, so Alemayetu Ashete - Tchero Adari Negn, Wallias Band - Muziqawi Silt, Samuel Belay - Queresh Endewasa, Mulatu Astatque - Netsanet all hit the spot for me (yes I know I'm crossover). Again please PM me for more.

Sorry for delay, Tunisia was real nice, they were into traditional singing processed through a vocoder at my local beach cafe. Couldn't find any vinyl anywhere though.

See ya
