I also liked the number featuring 'Nguashi Ntimbo'. Is he still singing?

T.P. O.K. Jazz - Lembi (Nguashi N'timbo) 1980

T.P. O.K. Jazz - Manguta (Nguashi Ntimbo) Télé Zaire 1980

From YouTube User: AboubacarSiddikh

Vocals: Djo Mpoyi, Nguashi Ntimbo, Lola Chécain, Josky Kiambukuta.

Wanduni translates:

Here's the transcription and translation of the "Manguta" fragment you posted. Essentially, it is a call and response session between the Chorus and the short solo by Josky Kiambukuta, followed by an extended "sebene". Josky is obviously improvising on the original composition and he keeps changing the metaphors he used to refer to the beloved Manguta "flower of my heart", "flower from the saints", "flower from the bards", "mermaid". I guess he could have gone on for a bit.

It's not always easy to what these Lingala singers say, especially when they use "Frangala" that all-too-popular Kinshasa way of combining Lingala roots and French suffixes (or vice-versa).

"Manguta" was very popular in Kenya in the early 1980s.

Chorus:
*****************
Elongi ya chérie
(My darling's face)
Elongi ya chérie
(My darling's face)
Photocopie ya Manguta aimée, aimée!
(Photocopy of Manguta, beloved, beloved!)
Balobi ye ayoka te, aimée, aimée!
(They talked (gossiped) but she didn't listen, beloved, beloved!)
Manguta nalingi yo fololo na ngai ya motema

Joksy Kiambukuta (Solo vocalist):
*************************************
(Manguta I love you, flower of my heart.)
O fololo na ngai ya motema
(O flower of my heart)
Soki yo te, nakolala te
(When you are not there, I don't sleep a wink)
Elongi ya chérie o o
(My darling's face)
Kaka boye
(Just so)
Chérie aprovokaka te o o
(Darling isn't provocative)
Mayo seya o o - [.....]
Oh nga nawei, nga nawei
(Oh, I'm dying, I'm dying)
{Chorus repeated}

Joksy Kiambukuta (Solo):
***********************
O fololo na ngai na ya basantu
(Oh my flower from the saints!)
Soki yo te, nakolala te
(When you are not there, I don't sleep a wink)
Elongi ya chérie o o
(My darling's face)
Mayo seya - [....]
Chérie aprovokaka te o o
(Darling isn't provocative)
Mayo seya o o - [.....]
Oh nga nawei, nga pomba
(Oh, I'm dying, I'm fying!)

{Chorus repeated}
Joksy Kiambukuta (Solo):
***********************
O fololo na ngai na ya bachantres
(Oh my flower from the bards!)
Soki yo te, nakolala te
(When you are not there, I don't sleep a wink)
Elongi ya chérie o o
(My darling's face)
Mami wota
(Mermaid)
Chérie aprovokaka te o o
(Darling isn't provocative)
Ekoseka
(She is laughing)
Oh nga nawei, nga pomba
(Oh, I'm dying, I'm fying!)

{Chorus repeated}
{Extended Sebene}

Franco & le T.P. O.K. Jazz - Tailleur 1 (Franco) 1981

Tabu Ley and Mbilia Bell Singing Nguash Ntimbo's 'Shauri Yako'

Song was written and originally performed by Nguashi Ntimbo & Festival Du Zaire.

Super Mazembe of Kenya also played their own version of Shauri Yako, and if I am not wrong BONEY M also had a version.

Here is Boney M. Singing "Sunny"
