Thanx alot but for some reason my PC crashes each time i start listening to the broadcast, however i listened to the first song by Tabu Ley and Ya Jose Kabasele i think and listening to that song i can deduce that my idol JB Mpiana is a major fan of Tabu Ley because a few of JB's songs have some lyrics and melodies fromTabu Ley's older songs.

'Flash' + 'Misc. Junk' may corrupt your browser every now and then -- when was the last time you cleaned up your browser cache?

Note: EasyCleaner is a superb tool for 'automating' your windows cleaning chores.

Also, if you are running Windows XP -- get Internet Explorer 7 if you haven't already done so -- AND/OR get FireFox [Highly Recommended]

----------------------------------------------

On the broadcast -- some of the old numbers remind me of a lot of things!

Maybe I am too old school, but sometimes when I listen to the current crop of Congolese Musicians -- I tend to get a little nostalgia for the past -- sometimes I do feel like they are doing to Congolese music what RAP is doing to 'Rythm and Blues, Soul and Funk' ....destroying it!

If you are old enough, you may remember 'Rappers Delight' by the Sugar Hill Gang -- that was 'good rap,' and anything after that has deteriorated badly.

I equate JB, Koffi and contemporaries with the Sugar Hill Gang [A major turning point in two different music worlds] -- everything seemed OK till that point.

Today, some younger Congolese Musicians do seem to have lots of talent -- but when they 'break from OLD tradition' I kind of lose interest, for the 'Godly' talent of earlier generations is trashed -- even the dancing gets 'cruder' and undignified...in many instances! [Please do not misconstrue that to mean I like the lousy 'rythmless' dancing in the video above]

...again, maybe I am too old school!

What do you think?

The PC Security software i have does it automatically,i haven't noted how often but it's quite frequent,it does so many processes that i normally did manually with other Security softwares.I will seat down and check thouroughly.

I agree with you, some of the current music simply switches me off, that's why i kind of listen to T.P.O.K Jazz songs most of the time or rhumba's by JB Mpiana,Papa Wemba and older ones by Koffi.

I remember the 'Rapper's Delight' song, from the current crop of rappers,i think it's only Dr. Dre and LL Cool J who still have that old skool touch to their music, that's why i rate them highly.

It's great that you are rebroadcasting AMBIANCE CONGO.

I hope that you all will excuse my poor French.

The purpose of the program is to spread the word about this great music and its almost 60 years of recorded heritage.

In USA, a surprisingly small number of people who were not born in Africa know about this great music. I think that they are simply missing the ride and I want to make sure that the ticket for that ride is available to them.

So we broadcast on the internet and I make the program available afterwards. The archived shows include track listings. It is my most sincere hope that people will hear something that they like, find it on the tracklist and then go out and support Congolese music by buying original copies. I started doing that about 30 years ago and I have not stopped and I don't plan to stop any time soon!

Some things that I play are just not available anymore, but I play them for educational purposes. People need to know that this music did not just pop up out of the blue last week or last year. It is not a fad or an exotic treat. It is an entire genre of music that contains a good number of styles and is made up of the life's work of hundreds and hundreds of people.

Thanks for listening.

I don't remember exactly when this came out, but it had to have been about ten or twelve years ago.
It's on sale for a ridiculously low price right now at Stern's big SALE webpage.

I recently read about it somewhere too and was surprised as well! Its good to know they are some none-african people who have a very deep interest in congo music too.
Scott Schuster, who is also an AMF registered member (here), is another great example too! What a great man with a great bibliography and world experience! He is also very much into congolese music. wow!!

also think that most people who are mentioned on this page are noneafricans I saw a couple of familiar names, DavidN's been included too! Grin

Credits also go to Frank Bensem. The man is well vested in DRC Music. I think Mobutu Seseseko did a wonderful Job for congo music to have hooked souls of many. (MHSRP)
